34 Gallon Red Sea Max Aquafuge Installation
This is a rather simple modification to install the an Aquafuge on the RSM 34 All in one tank. The only tool required is a simple scoring tool for acryllic:
This tool was used to cut the black plastic along the power center and the output as seen below. First remove the skimmer access panel by pulling the two nylon pins. It takes a bit of patience, but maybe 30 minutes total to score through both sides:
Next the CPR Aquafuge 2 needs one slight modification for those using the RSM skimmer. The center clamp wants to go where the skimmer is.
With the brace removed, we can install the Aquafuge by dropping the pump into the intake compartment:
Next fill the Aquafuge with water. You will see a box in later pictures. This is because the Aquafuge intake seal leaks a bit with the aquafuge pulling too far away from the tank. On the unmodified fuge, the center clamp pulls it in and resolves the issue. Since we removed the center brace, something has to push the fuge closer to the tank and keep it from pulling away. The box was used temporarily, but several other options exist.
Once filled, make sure it runs and there are no leaks before putting everything back together. The leak I mentioned in the intake wasn't present until the pumps were running.
Finally, put the light in place, and let the fuge do it's job.
